What is the Cow Creek Watershed Management Group?
The Cow Creek Watershed Management Group (CCWMG) is a nonprofit organization formed by citizens within the Cow Creek Watershed.  Their mission is to use the resources of the Cow Creek Watershed in a way to meet the needs of today without infringing on the needs of future generations.  The group began meeting in October 1999 and is headed by a Board of Directors who were elected in November 2002.

An Interim Board of Directors played a key role in making progress within the Cow Creek Watershed.  When the group began meeting in 1999, there were several organizational questions and concerns that needed to be addressed before the task of applying for grants and actively seeking out change within the watershed could be accomplished.   After determining as a group the major concerns for the watershed, the group made the decision to apply to become a 5013C (nonprofit) organization.  A key issue to many landowners who participate in watershed groups is to be aware that they are not going to lose control of their property when changes are made within the watershed.  A watershed group such as the Cow Creek WMG allows for landowners to be involved at the local level and offer invaluable input to agencies and partners carrying out analytical and restorative work within the watershed.

What is the role of the Western Shasta RCD in the Cow Creek WMG?

The Western Shasta RCD initially facilitated the meetings of the Cow Creek WMG, and WSRCD continues to assist in an advisory capacity with the group.  After gathering input from the CCWMG, the WSRCD applied for and secured grants from the State Water Resources Quality Control Board and the Packard Foundation to conduct a watershed assessment of Cow Creek.  WSRCD will carry out the requirements of the watershed assessment, working in cooperation with the CCWMG every step of the way.

How can I get involved in the Cow Creek WMG?

The Cow Creek Watershed Management Group is always looking for new members!  If you live within the Cow Creek Watershed, you can become a voting member of the CCWMG with an annual $25 contribution.  If you do not live in the watershed but would like to support the group's efforts, you can become an associate member with an annual contribution of $15.  To be placed on a mailing list and receive meeting notices and updates on group activities, email the District Watershed Coordinator, or call
