Pilot Project to Benefit Farmers,
Ranchers, and Timberland Managers
Managing irrigation water, preventing soil erosion, balancing fertilizer
needs, and controlling noxious weeds are just a few of the topics
to be discussed in a pilot project to help farmers, ranchers, and
non-industrial timberland managers in Shasta County develop their
own conservation plans. The plans will also help participants interested
in applying for cost-share funds to improve their operations.
The free pilot project and 3-day workshop is open to the first 30
land managers who sign up to meet with technical experts in water,
soil, vegetation, trees, and crops. The workshop will be held on
December 6th and 8th at 6:30 p.m. in
Anderson and a third meeting will be held in late January. Participants
will receive an aerial photo of their property and a comprehensive
34-page workbook. One-on-one discussions will help managers analyze
options and make economic comparisons between various methods and
treatments to achieve desired results. If you are unable to attend
the workshop, you are still eligible to apply for one-on-one planning
assistance.
This Shasta County pilot project for conservation planning has been
funded by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
and is being organized by the NRCS Redding Service Center in cooperation
with the Western Shasta Resource Conservation District in Anderson,
where the workshops will be held.
Signups for the program are being taken at the USDA Service Center
(north of the airport) at 3644 Avtech Parkway, Suite C in Redding.
