North Cow Creek Bella Vista Siphon Fish Passage Project
North Cow Creek Fish Passage Project to be implemented in late September, 2023.
Western Shasta RCD, with grant funding from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), will be removing Bella Vista Water District's pipe crossing across North (aka Little) Cow Creek to restore unimpeded fish passage for chinook Salmon and Steelhead. The project is located directly downstream of the Swede Creek Road Bridge over North Cow Creek in Palo Cedro, CA. This fisheries restoration project will demolish and remove the concrete-encased pipe from North Cow Creek, as the structure is no longer needed by Bella Vista Water District. Construction is expected to occur during the second half of September 2023 and be completed by early October.
This is a collaborative effort with help and regulatory oversight from CDFW, Bella Vista Water District, Bureau of Reclamation, NOAA Fisheries, Central Valley Water Quality Control Board, US Army Corps of Engineers, Central Valley Flood Protection Board, Shasta County Public Works, and the adjacent landowners.
