I-5 Corridor Fuels Reduction CEQA NOE

The Shasta-Trinity National Forest (STNF) is proposing to treat vegetation on approximately 20,025 acres along the Interstate Highway 5 corridor and the northwest portions of lands adjacent to Shasta Lake. The need for the I-5 Corridor Fuels Reduction Project is to reduce the risk to life, property, and resource values from a high-severity wildfire, uncharacteristic of the historic fire regime, and to improve fire suppression abilities and firefighter safety. The purpose of the project is to help restore fire to its natural role in the ecosystem and to create areas on the landscape where the vegetation is consistent with the historic fire regime.
